Our specialised equipment is perfectly suited for our fleet.

G2 Ocean’s in-house technicians, and our approved maintenance partners, ensure that our equipment is maintained to top standards. Documentation, safety inspection, and maintenance are managed and recorded in our advanced equipment database system.

Ongoing research and development help us identify how to improve equipment performance and design more advanced cargo handling systems, which are built and outfitted in our own equipment workshops. All of which helps us fulfil our commitment to safe cargo loading, discharge, and transport.

Hooks and Lifting Attachments

G2 Ocean has a large inventory of specialised hooks and other load attachment devices.

Hooks are mechanical or pneumatic operated and come in a wide range of types and sizes. Other load attachments include steel plate hooks, rail clamps, and coated pipe-hooks for damage-free handling of various types of pipes.

Unitising

The process of unitising – strapping together individual bales or bundles into a unit – enables more efficient loading and discharging operations. Unitising also helps to minimise cargo damage; a particular benefit for cargoes that are either damage-prone or unsuited to individual stowage, such as pulp and paper, lumber, aluminium and pipes.

Airbags

Rubber and polypropylene airbags are highly effective at maintaining tight stowage and preventing cargo movement, resulting in less damage during transport.

Each cargo requires specific levels of inflation pressure, which are monitored by our airbag manifold system.

As part of our commitment to sustainable shipping, we have an active program to recycle retired airbags rather than dispose of them.

Vacuum Clamps

Vacuum clamps and head clamps are used to lift large reels of newsprint and other paper products safely and efficiently.

By using frames to lift as many as 20 clamps, crane usage is maximised, enabling quicker loading and discharge.

Vacuum clamps are very effective for lifting sensitive products, including pipes, newsprint, and fluff pulp, as they greatly reduce the risk of damage to the cargo.

Core Probes

Core probes, when placed into the centre tube of a paper reel, expand to fit tightly within the tube. This allows for safe loading and discharge, minimising damage and maximising efficiency.

Grabs

All G2 Ocean vessels can be fitted with grabs ranging in capacity from 13 to 20 cubic metres. These high-performance grabs are well-suited for handling a wide variety of bulk cargoes, such as soda ash, kaolin, grain and coal.

Our grabs have a safe working load of up to 25 metric tonnes, which enables high productivity.

Lifting Frames

G2 Ocean uses both semi-automatic and manual lifting frames to efficiently load and discharge a wide range of cargo.

Our lifting frames are designed to our own specifications and highly specialised for the intended cargo. Our inventory includes versatile 150 metric tonnes heavy-lift beams for single or tandem lifts and modular spreader beams with capacities up to 250 metric tonnes.

Once semi-automatic frames are hooked up to a load, the crane driver can operate the lifting frame using a control system in the crane cab. This reduces the need for manual intervention, which increases safety and efficiency, in addition to reducing port labour costs.

Slings

G2 Ocean uses a wide variety of webbing, chain, and steel wire slings to lift many of the commodities we carry.

Many types of slings are tailor-made with a specific product in mind. All our webbing slings are manufactured to our specifications from man-made fibre webbing for cost-effective and damage-free lifting.

G2 Ocean has an active programme to recycle all web slings that can no longer be used for safe cargo lifting.

Research and development

As part of our commitment to deliver customised shipping solutions, we maintain our own workshops where we design and develop innovative cargo equipment.

The following is a selection of equipment developed in G2 Ocean’s workshop:

  • Bespoke solutions for complex project cargoes
  • Active Weighing System (auto weighing of cargo, such as granite blocks)
  • Pipe vacuum solutions
  • Pneumatic core-probes
  • Frame designs
  • Remote radio control
  • Electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Battery-operated, self-contained control systems
